Turkey’s largest and newest mosque sports six minaret

A new mosque which can accommodate 63,000 people at any one time has opened its doors to worshippers in the Turkish city of Istanbul.

Inaugurated by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday (May 3), the Camlica Mosque, which took six years to construct, is Turkey’s largest mosque, Anadolu reported.

Albanian President Ilir Meta, Guinean President Alpha Conde, Senegalese President Macky Sall and Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh were among several foreign dignitaries who witnessed the opening of the mosque, Al Jazeera repored.

The mosque sports six minarets representing six key aspects of Islamic belief including, the belief in one God, the prophets, angels, revealed books, the day of judgment and divine decree.
