Eritrean foreign minister arrives in breakaway Somaliland

Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh Mohammed has arrived in the capital of the self-declared Republic of Somaliland, Hargeisa, for talks with authorities there.

Osman’s visit is widely believed to be part of the recent regional efforts to enhance integration of the Horn of Africa countries spearheaded by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.

Some reports have indicated that the Ethiopian and Eritrean leaders are expected to lead mediation between the breakaway region and the Federal Republic of Somalia.

The self-declared Republic of Somaliland broke away from Somalia in 1991 but has not gained international recognition.
