Doha selected as the Capital of the Islamic Youth for 2019

The State of Qatar has received the key of ‘Doha — OIC Youth Capital 2019’ in recognition of Qatar’s efforts to support and empower young Muslims.

This came at the closing ceremony of ‘Al Quds Ash Sharif — OIC Youth Capital 2018’, which was held in Ankara in the presence of Salem bin Mubarak Al Shafi, Qatar’s Ambassador to Turkey; Abdurrahman Mohamed Al Hajri, Advisor to the Minister of Culture and Sports; Ministers of Youth and Sports of Turkey and Palestine, and the president of Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF).

On the occasion, Salem bin Mubarak Al Shafi delivered a speech in which he conveyed the greetings of Minister of Culture and Sports H E Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali and his wishes of the success of the ceremony.

The Ambassador expressed his thanks to State of Palestine. “We thank Palestine for its efforts in supporting the work of the Islamic youth, and we in Qatar have been keen to support the efforts of our brothers during this year.”

He also expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude for Turkey for hosting the closing ceremony of ‘Al Quds Ash Sharif – OIC Youth Capital 2018’. 

He also appreciated the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Islamic Youth Conference for Dialogue and Cooperation for all the efforts made over the past years in supporting joint Islamic youth work in exchange of knowledge and experience.

Salem bin Mubarak Al Shafi stressed the aspiration of the State of Qatar to strengthen cooperation among nations. “We promise you a year of outstanding youth activities and programs in accordance with the directives of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to take care of young people in all sectors.”

“We welcome everyone to their second country, Qatar, an oasis of goodness and now ‘Doha – OIC Youth Capital 2019’.

The event was followed a press conference attended by Abdurrahman Mohamed Al Hajri, Advisor to the Minister of Culture and Sport and Turkish and Palestinian ministers.

Al Hajri stressed the keenness of the Ministry of Culture and Sports to provide a range of activities and events during this year, which will be held by Qatari youth. 

He also stressed that Doha – the capital of Islamic Youth 2019 will be an opportunity to promote rapprochement among young people in Islamic countries and build dialogue and will promote exchange of experiences among young people that will empower them in the Islamic world.
